The People of Chelsea Project is an archive of photographs and interviews of the residents of Chelsea, MA: of neighbors, city officials, artists, old-timers, young people, the homeless, immigrants, and students of Chelsea, MA. In 2016 long-time Chelsea resident and professional photographer Darlene DeVita began this documentation of her fellow Chelsea-ites. She was later joined by her colleague Sarah Putnam in this effort to create a portrait of the full mix that makes up this lively city across the harbor from Boston. All photographs in this archive are by Darlene DeVita, interviews are by Darlene and Putnam.
This project has been made possible in part with grants from the Chelsea Heritage Grant and the Chelsea Cultural Council (through funds received from the Massachusetts Cultural Council), for which we are grateful. And a special thank you to the Friends of the Chelsea Public Library for archiving this work.
